Welcome to an extremely timely episode on the recent outbreak of Trichophyton mentagrophytes ITS genotype VII (TMVII) infections among men who have sex with men in Paris and across Europe.
Join Prof. Carle Paul, Editor-in-Chief of JEADV, and a leading mycologist, Arnaud Jabet, Assistant Professor at the Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital in Paris, first author of an important paper published in the February issue of JEADV.
Together, they discuss the sustained transmission, extended incubation period, and challenges in treatment. The infection requires long-term systemic therapy, as topical treatments are largely ineffective. The conversation also highlights the risks of skin-to-skin transmission, the necessity of hygienic precautions, and the growing number of cases across Europe (France, Italy, Spain, Belgium) and the United States.
The must-read article by Jabet and collaborators is now the most comprehensive evaluation of this epidemic phenomenon: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jdv.20439
